Teacher and nurse appreciation week is FAST approaching! This year, it is the week of May 6th-10th.
It is NO secret that these incredibly hard working individuals deserve so much more than one week of appreciation. If you’re wanting to put a little extra thought and love into a gift for them to express just how valuable they are, I’ve got you covered.
Follow along below, and I’ll describe a gift idea that’s so easy to put together and sure to bring a smile to any face.

As a prior classroom teacher myself, I received many wonderful gifts, but I’ll tell you the ones I valued most below.
- HANDWRITTEN NOTES – Any time a student took the time to write me a special note during this week, it meant the world to me. I still have many notes saved in a box from years ago to this day! There is just something so meaningful in a child’s own words, and I TREASURED these letters.
- CONSUMABLES – Don’t get me wrong, ANY gift is thoughtful. However, I promise you a teacher doesn’t need something else to store in a classroom or shelf at home. There’s just simply no more room, lol! Because of that, I LOVED when I received something I could use up, eat, plant, etc.
- GIFT CARDS – I cannot tell you how thankful I was to receive any kind of gift card during appreciation week. We all know teachers are poor, and I say that in the most lovingly, sad way, lol. Whether it was to a favorite store or restaurant, it was so incredibly useful, helpful, and thoughtful.
Each appreciation week, I try to build a themed gift basket around those items listed above for my kids’ teachers.
Last year, it was Sunflowers. This year, it’ll be FIESTA THEMED, and I invite you to check it out below.
Like I said above, this fiesta basket was so simple to put together and contains all the things to shower someone with some appreciation. See below for a list of included items in the gift basket.
- CONTAINER – I picked up the container I used for the basket at Dollar Tree. They have MANY inexpensive options there that could work for this gift basket, so just snag one you like that will fit all the things.
- TISSUE PAPER – Again, it was Dollar Tree for the win here, too. I picked up the rainbow/fiesta colored pack and used red, yellow, and lime green in the basket for filler and fluff.
- RIBBON – I bought this FIESTA RIBBON, and it was the perfect size and length to fit two baskets. I still have so much left over for other projects.
- COOKIE POUCH – Now, as a cookie decorator, too, I had a bit of an advantage here when it came to adding a fiesta themed treat here. As you can see, I decorated some cookies to resemble nachos, and sealed them in these COOKIE POUCHES.
- GIFT TAG – If you aren’t able to decorate cookies or purchase them from a cookie dealer (LOL), you could use any type of treat here! It doesn’t have to be cookies. However, using this adorable NACHO AVERAGE EDITABLE GIFT TAG, somewhere in the basket would be a super cute addition to bring the theme together. As you can see, I tied this tag on the cookie pouch.
- NACHO NOTEBOOK – My kids will use the first page of this insanely cute NACHO NOTEBOOK to write their teacher a special note. This is my absolute favorite part! 🙂
- NOTEBOOK PEN – Of course, any pen here attached to the notebook would work, but I found these cute MULTICOLOR PENS in the perfect color scheme to include in the basket.
- NACHO INGREDIENTS – I included a bag of chips, can of Rotel, and a block of Velveeta cheese in the basket so that the teachers can make their own nachos at home. I just picked up these items from my local store.
- GIFT CARD – To top off the theme of this basket, I asked each teacher their favorite Mexican food restaurant and picked up a gift card from there. Who doesn’t love Mexican food?!
